Mobile Clipper is here! After years of anticipation, Bay Area transit riders are finally getting the ability to pay with mobile Clipper cards. Currently undergoing beta testing, Clipper has enabled a select group of individuals to add a Clipper card to Apple Pay and Google Pay, which allows for payment using a smartphone’s NFC functionality on every Bay Area transit agency that accepts Clipper.
This was our first attempt at mobile payment on a quick journey from Pittsburg/Bay Point to Pleasant Hill. Holding your phone up to the Clipper reader is thankfully almost as quick as tapping a regular Clipper card for payment. Mobile Clipper is expected to be released to everyone this spring. Its release will provide much greater payment functionality to millions of transit riders all around the Bay Area.
